WORK – In search of truth
Captured by the US government, Mohamedou Ould Slahi has been detained for years in Guantánamo, without trial or charge. At the end of his life, he discovered two unexpected allies: lawyer Nancy Hollander and her collaborator Teri Duncan. With tenacity, the two women will face the implacable system in the name of fair justice.
From a true story, this very gloomy judicial drama which sets the pattern of a Muslim (extraordinary Tahar Rahim) who has suffered untenable conditions of detention while following the fierce fight of a lawyer for fundamental freedoms, is a film of great relevance that develops his empathy and which forbids any gratuitous sensationalism even if, necessarily, the scenes of torture are of extreme violence.
IMAGE – In the face of suffering, forgiveness
Captured digitally and ultra-acutely in the present facts, the particularly realistic image of this HD transfer is close to perfection (except two or three compressive traces). The copy is super clean, the details are clear, the colorimetric palette is natural and the contrasts are neat.
Voluntary « Withdrawn », flashbacks that stand out in a closed format take on a granular appearance with more unsaturated colors and a less assured pique.
SOUND – Hearing pain
Surprisingly large with well-loaded indoor atmospheres (as at meetings), this multichannel mixing with the spatialization studied, the determined score and the crystalline voices (the VFQ is accentuated) presents a sound harmony very suitable.
CONCLUSION – American hell
While the present Blu-ray offers a solid technique, how not to engage emotionally when the content of reality (the terrorist paranoia of the States post-11 September 2001) generates anger and indignation?
