WORK - High Speed Trap
While a virus that turns all living beings into zombies ravages South Korea, a father and his daughter try to survive on the last train to Busan, the only city not yet to have been contaminated.
While the class struggle replays in a closed circuit in this social satire in in camera infected, only the return to mutual aid and cooperation allows to face the zombie apocalypse. Indeed political therefore (up to this fratricidal mingle resurrected the painful memories of the Korean war) but also very entertaining, this particularly haunting disaster film (percussion, hovering rhythm and biting attacks) holds in breath all the way through its alliance horror/action/emotion. An excellent genre film that makes a sensation!
« Good laugh. Always giving to others instead of yourself. Why did you live like that? What was the point? What a load of crap. »
IMAGE - The lipbath
Resulting from a 2.8K digital capture finalized in 2K, this UHD scaling with Dolby Vision calibration significantly upgrades the master of the previous Blu-ray, despite the ultra-moderate use of DNR coming down the already low ambient granularity (applied in post-prod).
The compression is solid on its supports (an average bitrate of 52 Mbps) and the increase of fine details easily discernable (pores of the skin, sweat, hair, facial hair, wounds, etc.). The feeling of depth reigns and the clarity, even if tempered in the broad planes (because of the CGIs), makes a leap forward.
Even more boldly coloured and strongly illuminated, the image displays increased punch primarys (see saturation of red blood) and increased brightness. The overall warm colours enjoy a more pronounced saturation without altering the carnation, the range of adjusted contrasts (deeper blacks never blocked and brighter whites better trimmed) captures especially when the train passes through tunnels and high luminances shine as never before. MaxFALL was measured at 243 cd/m2 and MaxCLL at 1000 nits.
SOUND! Hey! The little train 🎶
A significantly visceral auditory nightmare proposed in VO Dolby Atmos (24-bit, 5240 kbps), whose aggressiveness continues and true envelopment embarks us manu militari in the various compartments of this hell train.
The mix shows a good dynamic range, the spatialisation which proves to be very generous makes an excellent use of the surrounds (the background noises, the out-of-field displacements of zombies) and the height channels (the Radio Sol Train, the vibrations of the carlingual, a helicopter), the dialogues firmly anchored on the power station remain clear despite the surrounding cacophony, the instrumental music of the Jang Young-gyu (making itself increasingly heroic and dramatic over the course of the minutes) is not lacking in scope and the LFE channel groans extensively.
CONCLUSION - Horror has entered the station
Zombie first-class flick who renews the genre without pushing it, Last train to Busan is paid a comfortable 4K Ultra HD trip (A/V services) InYes). But unlike the French Blu-ray released in 2016, the animated prequel Seoul Station Not on board!
Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
