WORK – Exorcism 2.0
Thanks to a revolutionary process, a young woman enters her mother's mind, condemned for murder and now immersed in a coma. But the exploration of his unconscious turns to confrontation, releasing a demon mat in shadow.
As pretentious (while the clichés of the genre are there) as uselessly alarmed (while the intrigue is predictable), this independent fear film masturbated from SF has a hard time immerse us in his nightmare.
The new film by Neilll Blomkamp (District 9, Elysium, Chappie), but passed an interesting concept that comes to life three times (in a graphic style close to the paranoid thriller A Darkly Scanner), everything else is really too trivial and/or insufficiently carved (family drama, the armed force of the Vatican). The disappointment is therefore up to the expectations.
IMAGE – In the digital subconscious, there are the Sims!
Captured with an Arri Alexa Mini in just a few weeks during the pandemic for a budget that is easy to guess modest, image « Peaser » (obtained with a Zeiss Super Speed 35 mm lens) that fits perfectly with the subject yet makes illusion.
Vintage and granular (even more in low light and flashback), it remains no less sharp (if narration allows), contrasting and globally bright so that nothing escapes your vigilance. Reversing the medal, compression does not always manage to follow the specifics of photography with some ups and ups and the colour banding during the last sequence in the brain of Angela.
SON – Are you there?
Just a little denser in VO, these two sound tracks generate a disturbing atmosphere thanks to a careful spatialisation of the effects and atmospheres that efficiently feed all the channels. And this is particularly true when « Neuronal simulations » where the permanent digital loading of data generates many noises « Information technology » which occupy all the acoustic space.
On the other hand, the dynamics fill his office, the voices are clear and the score relevant. On the other hand, the bass are only too rarely dominant.
CONCLUSION – Release the demon in you!
True square (the director has some know-how) but terribly generic, Demonic is only an inert exorcism despite a very attractive concept on paper... Let this Blu-ray return whatever happens with the utmost care.
