WORK – Secession Girls
1865, in the southern United States, in the midst of the Civil War. While men are called to the front, Augusta, her little sister Louise and their slave Mad, find themselves on the family farm. Life is best organized between the three women, until the announcement of an imminent threat: a troop of soldiers without faith or law, led by Sergeant Moses, lootes and assassinates all those they cross in the valley. There is only one choice: to take arms to repel the assailants...
Nestled in the darkness of a sacked America (the politics of burned earth) left in fallow to the lowest instincts of men with black soul, this semi-contemplative western with twilight atmosphere sees three women from the south (interpreted by invested actresses) struggling for their survival to meet two fallen angels (of the « Yankees » (ii) the abolition of slavery.
Minimalist in its execution (action is limited to the strictly necessary) and avoiding gratuitous violence, this feminist drama (without the speech supported too often of betting) that is played with expectations should fuel the curiosity of the cinemaphiles despite a certain lack of development (Sherman's march towards the sea is mentioned only at the turn of a dialogue).
IMAGE – To the south, chaos!
Captured entirely digitally with a camera Arri Alexa, this refined image with natural lighting (where a noise rise during passages immersed in darkness) delivers a robust definition, a relevant piqué (details are deliberately not over-acerated), colors « austeres » elegant, well-fitted contrasts and dense blacks.
SON – Far from the Southern Parsons
Concerned and placed, this mix is the image of the work that it sounds. The immersion is discreet (from the environmental atmospheres there), the noticeable frontal opening and the clear voices. Much more homogenous than his conœur (dubbing is too prominent in VF), the VO is to be preferred.
CONCLUSION – War is cruelty
Finally exploited by us (the film was released in the States in 2014!) thanks to the editor Condor Entertainment, In the silence of the West Ends her wandering and arrives in HD without getting robbed!
