WORK – The Sector of Mar

Paul and his girlfriend Barbara spend their vacation with a rich couple of friends, Howard and Vicki, on their sailboat off the Spanish coast. Following a storm, the ship failed on a reef, seriously wounding Vicki, stuck on the spot. Paul and Barbara decide to go get help in the small fishing village located by the sea, which seems strangely deserted...

Despite a tight budget that limits the use of its CGIs (more than outdated), this faithful and careful adaptation to H. P. Lovecraft's work (The Nightmare of Innsmouth) is an excellent B series with a desolate atmosphere, anxious scenery, tense rhythm, worked characters and suspense that goes crescendo. Welcome to the darkness!

IMAGE – Are these seafood fresh?

Filtered silver seed (the DNR cursor has been pushed to max), deficient compression (of posterization and video noise), irregular colors (the carnation is sometimes yellowish) and insufficient definition (many plans resemble an upscaled DVD) populate this very disappointing HD transfer despite good contrast management.

SON – Lä, Lä, Cthulhu fhtagn!

Although a little limited on the side of its effects (small budget obliges), this immersive soundtrack in devil (i.e. it rains all the way) is very effective.

The dynamics are high (a little more in VO), the voices are rendered clean (VF with careful dubbing), the environmental atmospheres (cf. the incessant storm) flood the acoustic space, the singular score of Carles Cases extends episodicly to the back and the bass sound the depths... of the Oceans!

CONCLUSION – Monsters and Gods

When Lovecraft travels to Galicia, creatures with indescribable monstrosity « haunt » places. Unfortunately, the boat to get there is not a first youth!

Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
