Let Cthulhu, Azathoth and Yog-Soth be praised! The "spooky season" is not only composed of strange disgusting pumpkin coffees and days watching the rain fall on a ravaged landscape, on the contrary! The beginning of October sounds like the arrival of a tripo of horror movies, both on the big screen (especially Terrifiing 3 [Nothing!]) only on the little Internet skylight. Indeed, Shadowz we gratify his usual marathon of horror that began with the decerebrate Laid to Rest. But not that! In collaboration with the festival Short, the screening platform offers 8 screenings of short films (only 1h30 after their broadcast in the theater !) for which it will be possible to vote for the spectator prize. Place at the first salve, with the evocative title "Happy Birth Dead".

Storm

Source United States | Release date : 2023 | Where to see the movie? Short and Shadowz
Implementation : Lena Tsodykovskaya | Duration : 7:52

One night, one storm, one couple alone in an apartment. What could go wrong? Someone knocks at the door. Already seen, you'd tell me. And yet...

Storm will quickly deviate from this line all drawn to offer us pretty breaks of tone, on horseback between comedy and horror. We will not say any more because surprise is worth discovering, despite a concept that goes very (too?) quickly breathless. Not the best in the "Happy Birth Dead" selection, but a nice way out. Note: the director Lena Tsodykovskaya ready to release his first feature film, Stereoscope. Case to follow...

Tiny Thing

Source United States | Release date : 2023 | Where to see the movie? Short and Shadowz
Implementation :Joshua Giuliano | Duration : 15:48

A couple (again), discovering a beautiful Airbnb rented for the night. Something to make you want to make galipettes (decidally, they didn't see Barbarian...). Except a fly decided otherwise.

Opened in a fixed plane on a deer head glutched by diptères, one clearly feels a vision arty in this Tiny Thing. And thanks to a rather skilful sense of the frame and a constant play with reflections and out-of-field, this short film quickly covers a terrifying atmosphere. Yet, while we are sure that a jumpscare will come to shake our nerves, the horror point where we do not expect it until we plunge into the most sordid body horror. Resolutely the favourite of this selection!

Dagon

Source Italy | Release date : 2023 | Where to see the movie? Short and Shadowz
Implementation : Paolo Gaudio | Duration : 6:07

The shortest court, and yet! Behind a title obviously evoking the history (and the monster!) Lovecraftian, Paolo Gaudio offers us a goldsmith's job with a particularly careful and attentive stop-motion to detail. Its glaucous atmosphere gives birth to characters who look like Picasso, causing their impulses of death with them...

And take care of the care with which Gaudio works textures and deep effects, it's worth it! Finally, with its mix between Lovecraft and Schwarzenegger ("If it bleeds we can kill it!"), one could only succumb to the charm of this Dagon. Very nice work!

Pesudo

Source Spain | Release date : 2023 | Where to see the movie? Short and Shadowz
Implementation : Miquel Díaz Bridge | Duration : 20:46

From the shortest one passes to the longest (and probably also to the most product of the selection). With Pesudo one leaves the pure world of horror to focus on a more atmospheric science fiction, where one follows a rejected young man, working in a futuristic robotics factory. One day, by cleaning the labs, he starts to feel a strange connection with a robot with female forms being developed.

It is not strange that this short wins awards in the festivals he travels (especially the Silver Méliès of the short film), as his formal and aesthetic mastery is undeniable. If he doesn't have our preference, he wins the most worked short film qualifier in the selection!

Drinking the Stephen Kings as the apricot syrup of my native country, I first discovered cinema through its (often bad) adaptations. I'm married to Mrs. Wilkes as much as a persistent Stockholm syndrome, I am gradually opening up to videoclub films and B-series peasers.Today, I wander between my favorite cinemas, film festivals and the edges of Helvetic lakes much less calm than they look.
