WORK – French touch in super briefs
Paris 2020. In a society where supermen are trivialized and perfectly integrated, a mysterious substance providing superpowers to those who have not spread. In the face of the increasing incidents, Lieutenants Moreau and Schaltzmann are in charge of the investigation. With the help of Monte Carlo and Callista, two former vigilantes, they will do everything to dismantle the traffic. But Moreau's past reappears, and the investigation gets complicated...
Without pretending to compete with blockbusters of the made in USA genre, this French-style urban polar with the American superhero figure (which he does not ape) is a first film as ambitious as it is courageous. And in spite of small, easily forgiving malfeasances (the tight budget didn't have to help), this fantastic film with a very concerned casting (Benoît Poelvoorde is great) that favors emotion with action (somewhat well-packed), humanizes his heroes (d'attachants justiciants), benefits from a controlled referenced humor and uses modest but accomplished special effects. It's a winning bet.
IMAGE – Flashes full of eyes
Coated with a granular texture of character (which can sometimes turn into tingling), the image offered in 4K CSD delivers a robust definition, an impeccable level of detail, perfectly saturated colours and strong contrasts. But doubtless, a Dolby Vision encoding would have brought much to the (belle) photograph.
SON – The appeal of justice
As the superpowers were being exploited, this 3D soundtrack, with very successful spatialization (good operation of the surrounds), clear dialogues and powerful music (themes between blaxploitation and electro riff), unfortunately kept it under the elbow on the side of the bass (which had to move further) and the aerial scene (which was much too discreet). However, the auditory performance is present.
CONCLUSION – After the Avengers, this is the era of the Royal Pack!
A calibrated audiovisual bill for the dark rooms (which it was deprived of because of sanitary measures related to the Covid-19), this original proposal that shows that the genre cinema of the Hexagon has under the mask is to discover all ceasing business on Netflix!
