WORK – Londonism of a sick society
The fates of two men, one of the future and the other of the past, will cross when a malicious virus spreads through Level 4, a video game that blurs the boundaries between dream and reality.
This aesthetic dystopia under influences (Nicolas Winding Refn, Blade Runner, the Italian giallo) is a film UFO deliberately abscons in its unfolding (the loss of landmarks participating in the subject), which flays the dehumanisation of modern Japanese society where impotence (not just social) reigns. Troublesome and provocative (of gender and violence), this experience should leave no one indifferent.
IMAGE – Reality or virtual?
Perfectly encoded, this meticulous HD transfer displays precise details (even if they vary voluntarily between the « realities »), a natural colorimetric palette (a fade past) or acidulated (an unusual future) with graceful saturation (a sure post-production figure) and seriously managed contrasts.
Of course, the stealthy distortion of color divergence and the appearance of a boil of pixels are related to narration.
SOUND – Relationship isolation
Clean and rich in serious, this Malaysian stereo soundtrack encoded in DTS-HD MA has a certain balance (dialogues are well integrated) and created a good frontal separation (the heavy atmosphere can thus fill its office) without forgetting to spread the amplitude of its techno-oniric music (essential vector of the transmission of emotions).
Again, the sound distortions and/or other parasites that can be heard here result from an artistic will.
CONCLUSION – The art of scrambling the tracks
For those who want to taste lace-based cyberpunk, I can't recommend the present Blu-ray to enjoy all the flavors!
