WORK – MMA in the skin
1990. Mickey Kelley is one of the first American black belts of the Brazilian jiu-jitsu. In order to support his family, he moved away from this sport to participate in clandestine MMA tournaments.
Worn by the heart and authenticity, this sporting drama that emphasizes the development of its characters (sympathetic and touching) without slamming on the free fights (without esbrouffe) is a sincere tribute to the jiu-jitsu. So give him the chance he deserves.
IMAGE – The face (tumefied) of emotions
Since comparison with Blu-ray is not possible (edition contains only one 4K Ultra HD drive), this evaluation is limited to the UHD HDR10+ transfer.
If it has to struggle with blurries of this and the stealthy presence of video noise (a handful of plans), most certainly due to the means of capture by passing (like interviews that are softer and more vividly coloured), the image remains solid and very dynamic.
With an excellent level of detail and high sharpness, it seems to benefit from a DI 4K that is clearly visible in close-ups (face wrinkles and/or pores). The warm colorimetric palette is natural, balanced contrasts and high light sources (lighting of dojos, daylight, sunsets).
SON – Love, love, love
Little on the demonstration, the VO that is offered in DTS-HD MA 5.1 is generally frontal (except for music and small atmospheres such as waves or spectators) is rather quiet while the fighting would have been well suited to more grip.
And if they sometimes lack power, the cause is not to be looked for on the side of (sufficient) magnitude but bass, nonexistent or almost! Fortunately, dialogues are well promoted and mixing is always clear.
CONCLUSION – Opportunity strikes twice!
Guided by emotions and not brute force, the Ultra HD Blu-ray is the image of the work he accompanies.
