WORK - Bob in long format

In Bikini Bottom, someone stole King Neptune's crown, and Bob Sponge's boss, Mr. Krabs, was at the head of the suspects. Convinced of his innocence, Bob and Patrick left for Shell City with the intention of exculpating him and returning his crown to Neptune.

When the animated series becomes a feature film, nothing changes in the ultra-vitamin recipe concocted by Stephen Hillenburg If that's its duration... And with the pop icon Bob sponge, the longer it's the dumber. So here we are embarking on a crazy adventure filled with crazy characters where the Disney is trampled by a second destructive degree. From the absurd you want some and a graphic infantilism assumed beyond reasonable, for a regressive delirium obviously hysterical in which the nonsense governs. In Simone's Crab Pâte!

« - Well, 101 bucks for a crab pie sandwich... »

IMAGE - Who lives in a pineapple in the sea?

This UHD Dolby Vision transfer to heavy-duty compression HEVC (an average bitrate of 87.2 Mbps) reproduces this mixture of 2D animation, 3D techniques, and 35 mm captures (as during the memorable encounter with David Hasselhoff) than the previous Blu-ray.

The 1.85 film ratio is now respected (compared with 1.78 in the past), the definition is maintained all along (with clear lines) and the silver grain is restored to its superb (a completely palpable organic texture). Nevertheless, there is little substantial improvement on the side of sharpness (the gain being insignificant) by the very nature of animation.

The colourimetric palette with abundant shades is deepened with a richness (yellows, roses, greens and reds) and shades (browns and violets) absent from the BT.709 standard. It should be noted that Mr. Krabs' key regains its olivating colour.

As for the contrasts, they darken the frame (abusely enlightened and sometimes overexposed on the old master) for a much more refined rendering (high luminances better capped) to denser blacks and whites cleaned (the eyes of Bob and Patrick). Peak Nits was measured at 192 cd/m2 (mostly moderate light sources) and MaxCLL at 1012 nits.

SOUND - A goofy goober, yeah 🎶

A very fun soundtrack filled with unbridled effects (generally balanced in the surrounds), comical dialogues (with great clarity and can move around here and there) and music that stick to the skin (composed by Gregor Narholz) transiting through all enclosures.

The acoustic scene is in permanent boiling, the backs are overactive (the bubbles spring, the badads, the people frightened by the degarni skull of King Neptune), the dynamics give to the heart joy and the LFE channel, even if unsolicited, does not seem despite everything (cf. the heavy steps of the scaphandrier).

But for a better immersion, the largest VO lossless (24-bit, 3830 kbps) is to be preferred over the most frail VF lossy (640 kbps), whose dubbing, held by the usual distribution of the series and always as funny, barely snacks (some frontal atmospheres) the original mixing.

CONCLUSION - Natural or synthetic?

Completely barred, the TV series Nickelodeon the most spongy of history extends its communicative bullshit on large screen. The sea star is split on 4K Ultra HD support whose A/V performances, in a position to renew the cinematic experience, are the pineapple of Bob Sponge's underwater paradise!

Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
