WORK – Man disguises himself as a flying rodent

No one knows that Bruce Wayne, the boss of a vast and powerful consortium, the richest man in the United States, wears Batman's leather suit and mask every night to steal from his unjustly oppressed fellow citizens. No one except his loyal butler Alfred and his old friend, Commissioner Gordon.

Stuck in the ass between two chairs (the colorful and crazy atmosphere of the 1960s series coupled with darker passages), this bariolate blockbuster in which Val Kilmer (in Bruce Wayne credible but in Batman too clean) is stolen the star by Jim Carrey and Tommy Lee Jones (completely hysterical), is little inspired and rather visually naughty (special effects have very badly aged) even if the action is omnipresent and the show remains entertaining.

IMAGE – Oh, I like latex, it makes me crazy!

While this 4K restoration is not as beautiful as those of Tim Burton's films, the aging Blu-ray VC-1 released in 2009 is more than a distant (bad) memory. Farewell, then, too sweet sting, dull contrasts and unbold neon. Today, Joël Schumacher's flashy vision is finally beautifully represented.

The images are healthier and stable, the definition is much more precise (Gotham's exteriors), the increase in details is considerable (cf. Double-Face's make-up), the enormous colorimetric palette is otherwise denser and brighter (especially the Greens of Man-Mystery), the dark scenes enjoy greater firmness thanks to stronger blacks (the Batcave appears in its best light), and the high luminances are brighter than ever (the reference in the field being the rendering of phosphorescent painting during the scene with punks).

SON – You can call me... L

From the scrolling of the opening credits to the chaotic madness of the action scenes, this new soundtrack Dolby Atmos muscular and very noisy constantly and with fun of all speakers.

The spatialisation is submerged by a ton of effects and so much ambiance, the dynamics are far from making its timid, the surrounds are zealous, the height channels are very active from the start (a helicopter, the presence of Batman, the ammunition that ricochocate, the falls of glasses, the bursts of thunder, voices, the Batwing and the passing j'en), the score of Elliot Goldenthal climbs crescendo and turns out to be well enveloping, the bass do not do in lace (catacysmic explosions) and the dialogues are always clear. It's a severe move!

Clearly less fished, the VF still gives its maximum.

CONCLUSION – We all wear a mask

I love what you got from this 4K Ultra HD: heavy metal meets Maisons & Jardins. Beautiful! It's so black and gothic! It's so disgusting and decadent! While pleasant and luminous... and very bourgeois. It's so you! And so tooiiii!

Batman Forever

Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
