Presented at Gamescom, Saber Interactive teams were able to show a second level build of Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine 2. A row battle in which we took part for almost an hour of rhythmic beating drum play. We were able to exchange with Oliver Hollis-Leick creative director of this third person anchored in the world of Warhammer. Butterflies, eviscerations and chainsaws, this is the bariolate program of this Gears promising and hoped to match its ambitions.

Tidus Fenix

Since the release of the first Space Marine12 years have passed. Twelve years in the video game, it corresponds to an eternity from a technical point of view. Thanks to the progress made since the impressive physical motor World War Z developed internally at Saber, it is now possible to display thousands of Tyranides on screen. A prowess that gives vertigo while a few years ago, such a demonstration of strength seemed unrealistic. It is also hoped that the game will run without sunk on more modest machines.

In Warhammer, crowd management is the body of the gameplay and if one wants to make a comparison, one can say that it is a mix between Gears, Warhammer, Starship Troopers and Dynasty Warriors (Let's be crazy). First observation, technically the level presented impresses. Seeing thousands of Tyranides breaking through such an organism is particularly impressive. In the background, other marines are watching us with laser rays as we throw ourselves into the fray. Question ambiance, Saber put the package to fill us with mirettes.

Feasts and Men

Specificity of Space MarineThe gameplay combines both firearms and white-armed accounts. This alternates between projections in the crowd to make a way to the big baleze of the group. Where Gears was content with a body with a body limited to chainsaw or other joyous executions, Space Marines gives more weight to the body to body that occupies a place at least equivalent to those of the shoot, if not more. It was possible to equip with a chainsaw, a sword or a hammer for Sunday's tinkerers who would like to try the extraterrestrial genocide.

With its parade system, Saber integrates a counter system that destabilizes the opponent of a handgun shot. It was also possible to launch a special power like a fury to regain life by crushing aliens. As in any good action game of the 21st century, we are strongly invited to open our chakras to barbarism to complete the wounded Tyranids with grace and elegance. Eliminating a leader can sometimes steal the menu while allowing us to regain points of life.

In particular, it is too early to know whether the game will be renewed throughout the campaign. On the other hand, the gameplay presented already shows a character otherwise less heavy than this tank by Marcus Fenix. Fluid and rhythmic, the joustes chain without time dead, which is a first engaging sign.

Another good point, not least, is that the entire solo campaign can be played on three, so that we can stimulate our interest, while the multi GST is so rare. It remains to be determined whether the writing of the campaign will hold the player and the fans of the franchise in breath. Answer coming in a few weeks since the game is expected this autumn. And we must say that we are looking forward to the final version!
