WORK - The Little House in the Fleet

A young American couple specializing in urbex decides to explore a house that has been buried under an artificial lake. But this one seems to be closing on them and the couple finds themselves trapped in this place loaded with the darkest stories as their oxygen reserves decrease dangerously...

Despite a last part that takes the water (from horror to scumbed codes) and an action lacking oxygen, this dreadful old-fashioned film that plays on several phobias (claustrophobia, phasmophobia and thalassophobia) holds its high concept without fail (a haunted underwater home). The environment is anxiogenic, the narrative is clean, the minimalist effects (a rare jump scares), the staging sometimes subjective (found footage) sometimes objective (to disorient) and the mistreated characters. Inhale deeply and dive for a nightmare in apnea!

IMAGE - In deep water

This UHD Dolby Vision transfer from multiple sources (GoPro, drones, ARRI and Panasonic Lumix GH5) shows visibility most of the time and therefore honours the photography of the photo. Jacques Ballard (The Song of the Wolf), chief operator specializing in aquatic scenes.

As of course, filming in water is a real challenge since lighting, sharpness and fluidity of movements are not easy to reconcile. There are, in fact, certain blurries and other bankal perspectives, not to mention the lack of homogeneity between the different cameras used (notably in terms of the definition and the finesse of the pique), but the whole remains no less accomplished and allows itself to play at leisure on the reflections (on the metallic elements and the aqueous expanses) and the play of light.

In front of the Blu-ray where compression artifacts have followed the underwater progression, the image here draws the best of the source material. The details are increased everywhere (Tina's hair, waves on the surface of the water, the seabed, decors and other macabre objects of the house), the extended colorimetric space with richer primaries (red glow, yellow and blue-obvious bottled O2), the improved contrast ratio (the ambient darkness is no longer milky) and the lighting, now better designed (the glistening of the water), much brighter (the flashlights of divers, the drone projector).

SON - Glou glou bouh!

With palpable dome spatialization, this Dolby Atmos soundtrack is ideally suited instead of using all its assets to immerse us in the water.

The dynamics increase considerably when the narration feels the need, the dialogues remain intelligible throughout (underwater communications of course understood), the verticality of the mixing active from the first seconds (the sounds of nature and the rotors of the aerial drone) so as not to leave us once again under water (the air bubbles, the water drone, the voices of the protagonists, the drop of materials and the constant pressure of the aquatic environment), the surround scene is not left behind with in addition the sounding of some supernatural phenomena, the frightening score of Raphael Gesqua is ventilated on the different channels and the bass come to consolidate the whole with a solid sitting.

CONCLUSION - Beware of Sleeping Water

As a fish in the water, this edition 4K Ultra HD with the perfectly waterproof combination (three mediabooks limited to superb illustrations) and well prepared A/V performances (to practice scuba diving) propels the underwater trip of the tandem MauryBustillo to terrifying depths!

Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
