Adapt the franchise Ninja Turtles is a deemed perilous exercise. Between the trilogy of nanars from the 1990s, the Fucking comebacks of the 2000s and the adaptations of video games missed since Konami's standard game, no one had really given back the coat of arms of this series of youth dear to the thirty-year-olds. Even prestigious studios like Platinum Games have broken their teeth on the shell of turtles! Building on its success since the renaissance of flagship licences in the 1990s, it is Dotemu who took up the challenge with this new beat them all thought like a merry mess playable up to six players both locally and online. Montreal developers of Tribute Games (Panzer Paladin, FinthookDid he succeed in abjuring the curse?
Cowabunga!
First thing that hits the eye for any 2D amateur, these are the typical graphics of the 16 bit era. While Streets Of Rage 4, Also published at Dotemu was modelled on Mega Drive, the developers of Tribute games chose to pay tribute to the Super Nintendo. And it must be said that on this point the result is perfectly mastered. The colors are shimmering, the animations licked and varied. The last original point in co-op, one of the triggers of the controller allows to share its life bar with its injured partner. An original idea to solidarize gameplay and support the weakest. Splinter Cell

To try to vary the pleasures, Tribute Games also varied the horizontal scrollings with passages on Overboards which are more reminiscent of shoot-up even if these are not the most inspired levels. The game offers a fairly varied range of enemies with a few nuggets like these cheese monsters melted like a delicious pizza. In general, crude oil Foot Clan less resistance than thugs Streets Of Rage, especially since it has no Friendly Fire by default, which makes the game more permissive between stick bourrins. Among the regrets, one would not have been against a challenge worthy of this name, a little more variety in the levels and more combative bosses to lengthen the lifespan of the title. The final boss gets snuffed without bunting for example. But if we ignore these few flaws, Shredder's revenge remains a particularly accessible and pleasant game to play controller in hand and, who knows, maybe Tribute Games just laid the first stone for a second more muscular episode...

Yes, you thirty-year-old player who sometimes sings Ninja Turtles in the shower, this game is dedicated to you. Perfect for an evening between buddies and a pretext for eating pizza, the last born of Tribute Games shows again the talent of the Montreal studio and Dotemu's love for retro games. Resolutely focused on fun and despite too much technique, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles remains a very good aperitif to share with friends. We would certainly have liked more content and challenge. But like Streets Of Rages 4 when it's released, let's cross our fingers so that future modes will soon be proposed to extend the short life of the title. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, it's kind of like a pizza four cheeses supplement cheese, we eat it too fast and whatever happens, even if it's not very balanced! A guilty pleasure you can't resist!
