Super Mario RPG is a love letter to the original game, a direct address to fans of the very first Mario RPG. Despite its cute graphics and a world full of ideas, however, the title has suffered somewhat for years. In almost thirty years, water has sank under the rivers and it is difficult not to compare the original with its otherwise more accomplished suites, Mario and Luigi and Paper Mario. Super Mario RPG thus falls into the trap of the remake which does not free enough of its original material, for doubtless fear of mourning the memories of the elders. The title thus remains a Proust madeleine to be reserved for the curious or nostalgic of the era where Square was still of this world. A nice trip to Wonderland. Simple and too superficial, however, the combat system will be a fun-mouth for the toddlers and an excellent entry in the matter before tasting the retrogaming with the crazy saga Mario and Luigi or waiting for the memorable Paper Mario, cult game of the Gamecube which will soon be entitled to a remaster more than expected to the editorial.
