A large ready-to-wear brand is about to wreak havoc (this is the case) thanks to the upcoming release of their « super-shapers » : jeans that will definitely make you a hell of a ball! What the employees of the brand don't know, locked in the store one night from the phenomenal exit to finalize the spokes, is that these so-called jeans fairtrade will actually prove to be dangerous predators...
Canadian Film Elza Kephart, Slaxx in the absurdity of his intrigue, succeeds in creating a real critique of the fast fashion... Between the intracability of raw materials and the hypocrisy of their certifications (the supposed bio, a fair trade Kephart transposes all the elements of neo-liberalism into the mini-society that she depicts through this store. Leaders obsessed by their promotions, debacle of personal development slogans gerbant, reversal of all progressisms (feminism, ecology, soft work...) to spoil consumption and yield (couchou) Barbie !), obsession with appearance, guruization of creators...
And if the process is not the most subtle, let us admit that it gives a body to the feature film adding to the pure regressive pleasure of this Assault for Revengeers. The image is meant to be clean and the work of the colors remains basic (a falsely paradisiacal marshmallow inside the walking enclosure, a greenish and metallic scoundrel as soon as it is in the back-shop). Nothing revolutionary around here, but honest control of the camera and special effects/practical effects manage to make it always stimulating.
Bizarre falzars
Let's admit that Slaxx is helped by its refreshing duration: barely an hour and a quarter! Suffice to say that the film passes like a letter to the Post Office. Still, we would grunt about the unsubtle – and highly Manichaean – characterization of the characters, and the lack of empathy we feel for them, even for the two main protagonists of the story... The tares that are quickly forgotten, especially thanks to inventiveness (and gags) leading to a conclusion that we did not see coming.
Anyway, Slaxx It's a little horrific pleasure rather well led by a director who has under the pedal despite a very small budget. An oddity to discover now on Shadowz.
