The cold air smells good cinnamon and orange bark, the hot browns weigh up frozen winter air and the shops are overcrowded, no doubt, Christmas is approaching. And who says end-of-year parties necessarily says Christmas movies, which is not necessarily good news for movie-goers who see tons of rose-water romances coming in smelling good tree. Yet a spring coming directly from the 1990s will surely give you balm to the heart:Holy Santa Clausfrom Raymond Briggs' work.

From David Bowie to Santa Claus

First, which isRaymond Briggs? Although it may be celebrated overseas, the name of illustrator, writer and cartoonist may not tell you anything. There is no doubt that one of his books has already passed into your hands! At school, at grandparents or simply in your childhood memories, it's impossible for her Santa's bum to be red, her adorable white bear or her face.SnowmanDon't tell you anything!

Indeed, Raymond Briggs is probably the best known child illustrator before the year 2000! And the animated adaptations of his books trust British televisions, all the more so at the end of the year... Real children's animation phenomena, which offer no other than the pure British legendDavid Bowiein itsSnowman(see its introduction in the video above). But why should we talk about Raymond Briggs again today?

The magic of Christmas version nineties

BecauseHoly Santa Clauscomes out in DVD format Friday, and that it's a real animated movie nuggetold schoolHey! And this medium-film (26 minutes) stands out from the whole tripotée of animated films on the theme of end-of-year celebrations first by the staggered characterization of its main character! A santa christmas bougon, a traveler, who sometimes haunts the French streets baguette in his arm, parque his caravan at the bottom of Scotland or lizard in the pools of Las Vegas...

In concert, the characterization of this character and the environment in which it evolves distance the medium from the kitsch and snow-covered imaging stencifs usually surrounding the productions of such a cabit. Even better, the care given to the animation gives a splendid over-year bill toHoly Santa Claus: a visual appearance that will slice into what currently offers 3D animation too sharp, taking in concert the wonder of the little blonde heads just as much as the tenacious nostalgia of their parents...

Anyway,Holy Santa Clausis probably a must-see of the films to see before (or for) the New Year, at least for the little ones! A film that fits into the same universe asThe Snowmanand whose viewing can therefore be extended by these means!

Holy Santa Claus

Drinking the Stephen Kings as the apricot syrup of my native country, I first discovered cinema through its (often bad) adaptations. I'm married to Mrs. Wilkes as much as a persistent Stockholm syndrome, I am gradually opening up to videoclub films and B-series peasers.Today, I wander between my favorite cinemas, film festivals and the edges of Helvetic lakes much less calm than they look.
