WORK – He's passing through town...

Los Angeles 1997. Perfectly organized and armed drug trafficking gangs compete for the supremacy of the street to police forces, poorly equipped and few. In this hell of violence, Detective Mike Harrigan and his team are waging a merciless war against King Willie's squirrels. But soon the two men discover a common enemy, an invisible and invulnerable killer who decimates the ranks of dealers and cops...

Transporting its world from the plant jungle of Latin America to the urban jungle of Los Angeles (stylized with its very worked colors), this Predator offers some absolutely cult moments of bravery (the encounter between Harrigan and King Willie, the attack in the subway train, the fight in the slaughterhouse) but loses some breath compared to his elder. Whatever, the show is there is the movie built a solid myth around its monster. A very good B series worthy of the best action films of the 90s.

IMAGE – Los Angeles, hell on Earth?

Less sober and much more « BDesque » as proposed by the first opus, the photograph of this first suite is boosted on this 4K Ultra HD.

The saturation of the primaries (especially the reds and blues), the dominance of the contrasts (the brightness of the whites and the depth of the blacks) and the intensity of the various light sources (the daylight of the day, the public lighting, the gyrophars and lights of the police, the laser pointer of the Yautja and the passing day), far exceed the (now) dull rendering of the transfer 1080p. Similarly, the definition is significantly improved and the details much more refined. In contrast to its HD counterpart, the images of this UHD transfer are not artificially filtered or reinforced.

Finally, the grain inherent in the work is indeed present even if it can happen to freeze (especially during the first minutes) or to turn in tingling (in the undergrounds of the metro), hence in the end a slightly less good impression than with the Ultra HD Blu-ray of the first Predator.

SON – The silence of the night

In VO, the acoustic spectacle is total (despite the inevitably dated sounds) with striking basses, a score inside, powerful effects and realistic spatialization (the agitation within the police station) where the rear scene plays a leading role (the shots).

Even if the French track DTS does not detract, the sound activity is in retreat.

CONCLUSION – The hunting season is reopening!

Ten years after his safari in the Central American jungle, the Yautja is back to truck cops and dealers in the urban jungle of the « city of angels »... More peasy, tentacular and gangrened by violence in 4K Ultra HD!

Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
