WORK – Child terror
Fleeing from a painful past, Chloe began a new life as a teacher in Morvan with her 8-year-old son Jules. Welcomed warmly by the inhabitants of the village, she fell under the charm of Mathieu, a charismatic and mysterious doctor. But terrible events disturb the tranquillity of the villagers: a child disappeared and a wild beast attacked the cattle. Jules is on alert, he feels it, something around the house at night...
On the edge of the fantasy, this societal drama haunted by the domestic spectre of domestic violence is abandoning itself to the universe of tales to better refer us to our night fears. More anxious than frightening, the film by Arnaud Malherbe (see our Interview) Revisits the European myth of logre, not without mystery and poetry, in order to evoke the traumas of childhood. Poor in places but very attentive... Like good parents!
IMAGE – Let's walk through the woods
Except for a sometimes visible compression (the stealth of colour banding in some backgrounds), this 1080p transfer is totally « gaga » of the photo (handled) of the Ops leader Penelope Pourriat.
The definition does not lack precision, the details have been able to leave the forest without any artificial help, the colorimetric palette convokes the most beautiful hours of naturalism (greens and blues are hard worked) and the contrasts, careful (cf. the depth of the shadows in the dark night), greatly participate in the oppressive atmosphere of the work.
SOUND – Crying Wolf
Enjoying the deafness of his little hero, this fluid and realistic DTS-HD MA 5.1 soundtrack plays with « Enclosure » (the noises suffocated when the hearing aid is turned off) and « Release » (the movements of birds) thanks to a smooth but generous spatialization (the rural atmospheres abound). As it is customary with genre films, the dynamics did not pack for the city!
CONCLUSION – A monster fear?
Don't let the darkness devour you and let yourself be carried away by this singular proposal that is cruelly lacking in representation in the French film landscape... Especially when she arrives at your home in a box designed to highlight her assets!
Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
