What makes a good Mario Party? You have three hours. Family license released in 1998, the saga has declined episodes for more than twenty years. The verb « decline » is also for the quality of the opus, no one having managed to match the purity of the N64 and Gamecube episodes. Purists worship in the fourth episode, in the fifth and since... nothing. A rudimentary quarrel while the real ones know that Mario Party 4 will govern them all. 10 Mario Party Later, young children playing on this strange purple cube grew up almost a quarter of a century later. Released this summer on Switch 2 Mario Party Jamboree Would he be elected? Besides, what does Jamboree mean? Answer in this paper that juggles through the ages!
To a Mario Party à la carte
Originally released on the first Switch of the name, Jamboree benefits from a « upgrade plan » what in the editorial jargon means « You're going to rattle. ». You will either have to buy the version Switch 2 full pot or pay the upgrade via the Nintendo Eshop for the modest sum of EUR 19.99. This racket of the small craftsman adds a multitude of modes to the original game. Access to « Jamboree TV » offers new ways to play with the Joycons, the microphone, the mouse and the famous Gamechat and its prehistoric (but playful) camera. The Switch 2 version is therefore divided between the original game and the mode Jamboree TV, which is rather laborious to circulate between the modes of the game. Hic, some improvements like pro mode are not allowed in the Jamboree version which itself offers a duo mode and an illico presto mode. Too bad you didn't sit down with the Switch episode to assume the evolution of the franchise on one and the same hub of departure.
The Bowser Show will also put your ego to the test with a series of challenges based on the microphone and where you will have to make the most noise for the well-being of your neighbours. It's relatively funny to scream anything in the microphone, but we have some doubts about the life of this mode after exhausting all the most staggered outputs. Switching to a new hardware requires, the resolution goes from 1440p in TV mode to 1080p in table or portable mode. A separate form detail, Nintendo plays the displayed card of customization. The small craftsman finally frees his license with variations of the traditional set. It's a very good start but it doesn't go as far as a Smash Bros or Super Mario Maker. This is all the more a pity as we feel the sadistic potential of customization, for the hour still limited to details.
Be an ass and shut up
So what makes a good Mario Party ? His cards? His mini-games? Or family breakdowns for stealing his brother's star at the last minute? Maybe a little bit of this, but let's not sell this fast. First point, after several rather mediocre episodes, Jamboree offers more interesting maps, without being overwhelming. The real success of this episode is these 110 mini games, which puts him at the top of all the previous Mario Party. Certainly aware of the lack of inspiration of the previous shutters, Nintendo realized that it is in the old pots that we make the same jams. As a result, there are some mini games of the last few decades and that's so much better. To this is added new proposals generally well thought out with few exceptions leaving too much room for chance. For the most refractory, it is always possible to exclude games of chance in the game options.
Laughters and tears
Let's be clear, the heart of a good Mario PartyIt's his potential for scavengers. On this point, Nintendo seems to take the right path with more possibilities to betray our playmates. However, one feels that luck still occupies a too important place on the plateaus, which contrasts with very successful mini-games and where one never seemed to be spectator of his destiny. This will probably make the novices smile but, in Mario Party 4A certain degree of cunning had to be used to achieve its ends. As an illustration, the Browser boxes precipitated events, although random, but which provided the opportunity for alliances as precarious as they were temporary.
This Russian roulette side has completely disappeared to our great disarray. Bowser simply steals either a star or, failing that, a few coins from his unfortunate victim, which is not very punitive in an episode where the NPCs never miss an opportunity to water us with money. But for those who grew up with the old opus, we lose the salt of his punishments. At the time, we never knew what sauce Bowser was going to eat. These alliances of circumstances were such opportunities to stab our allies in the back of circumstances, after swearing to them mordicus that we would be faithful.
So is this Mario Party Gives the parties some spice anyway? If you compare with the papers that have been released in the last 20 years, the answer is yes. But if you return to the master stallion, Mario Party 4There's still a long way to go. If you feel that Nintendo debrides its formula (and that's so much better), there remains an unexplored potential. Like Mario MakerWhy not finally let the player choose what he likes? Let's imagine for a moment a Mario Party where we could choose the degree of vilénie allowed on the set. While customization options are present, they are still too timorized. Nintendo is on the right path, they only have to drop the sails towards the Do It Yourself. Failing to delight the crown in the fourth opus, this episode remains a very good cru. A good student who could, however, do much better.
