After a trip to Latin America, the podcast Mag.7 resumes its habits: call a guest, let it go in the DVD/Blu-ray rays of the libraries of Agglopolys de Blois and offer us a selection of 7 titles he loves. This is the cruel limit of borrowing but also a figure inherent in the 7th art, which was able to offer us cult works such as The 7 Samurai, Se7en, Snow White and the 7 Dwarves, The Seventh Seal or But where did the 7th Company go? On the program of the day: SF, documentaries, cult works and especially... passion in the raw state!

mag.7

It was the next session!

Mag.7 is a podcast, produced and distributed by the association blésoise The Next Meeting. The principle is simple: in collaboration with libraries of Agglopolys In the town of Blois, the host Étienne invites people to walk through the music-cinema service and video games of the places and to choose DVDs there. More specifically, seven films, series, documentaries or concerts – seven corresponding to the borrowing capacity proposed by the library – then evoke their selection to the microphone. A monthly program based on the sharing and passion of the 7th art, and seeking to highlight the quality and quantity of films available in public libraries, all accessible for modest amounts, if not totally free in some communities.

The Mag.7

Meeting the darons

Within The Next MeetingThe average age is mainly around 30. As a result, as soon as wrinkles begin to appear, we cannot help cartaging our elders, especially when our dear Stephen invites the one we call our « radio daron » Hey! But if they obviously take the joke with fun, having them next to us is above all a real strength for film chatting!

In partnership with The next session, so discover the brand new episode of Mag.7. The latter highlights the DVD selection of Jean-Charles, member of the vendômois cinema club 41 images / second and podcast columnist The Next Meeting. And if these are films that are mainly offered to you through this program, Jean-Charles has expanded his choices within the library catalogue of Agglopolys de Blois by venturing on the side of series and documentaries. In short, a nice selection to his image to which Etienne allowed herself to add her own reco of the moment. Listen!

Opinion of The Next Meeting (Aurélie) : If you want to watch Shining another eye, Room 237 is the documentary not to be missed. Through various interventions by fans who have peeled the film in all its ways, Rodney Ascher takes us to the Overlook to discover his mysteries. Boulevard de la mort - A movie Grindhouse (2007)

Timecode 09: 32

Title V : Grindhouse : Death Proof – Nationality : United States – Gender : Action, Thriller – Director : Quentin Tarantino – Distribution : Kurt Russell, Rosario Dawson, Zoë Bell, Sydney Tamiia Poitier, Vanessa Ferlito...

DVD Edition France | TF1 Studio | 09 March 2011 - Blu-ray Edition France | TF1 Studio | 03 December 2009 - Dissemination platforms : MUBI, FILMO, Canal VOD, Orange and VIVA

The pitch : The fate of young women who will find themselves facing a professional stuntman, who actually turns out to be a serial killer targeting his victims at the wheel of his indestructible car...

Opinion of MaG (the celest wolf): Less crazy and angry than Planet Terror, but more posed, dialogged and referenced, Death Proof is a good opus made in Quentin Tarantino which pays tribute to the films of exploitation, with its false connections, its visible damage on the film (in the first part only), its gore scenes (the great scene of collision in the middle of the story shows us the detailed death of the victims) and its very 70s atmosphere. The obvious talent of the splendid main actresses and the devastating charisma of Kurt Russel, in masochist googeyman, finish rendering this film « Grindhouse » binding and jubilatory.

Opinion of The Next Meeting (Sebastian): Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez wanted to pay tribute to the films of exploitation with the diptych Grindhouse. So went out at the same time (in the USA) Boulevard of Death of Tarantino and Earth Earth Rodriguez. A double program that succeeds in resuming the style of these productions made at the vave (petre qualité d'image, son dubious, scenario ambigué...) and that fully assumes itself as such, pushing the Z-series bastards to the point of being fun and stupid at will. Boulevard to death is, in his personal capacity, the weakest of both films, because of his repetitive rhythm (twice the same intrigue) and his bias to abandon his specific visual along the way. However, the result remains a regressive entertainment that does good.

The pitch : Awaken without memory and hunted by an inspector for a series of murders, a man seeks to find memory. But his quest will lead him to sink into a mysterious urban maze and cross strange creatures with frightening powers...

Opinion of MaG (Celeste wolf)  : Too unknown, this existential nightmare in black trench-coat, where reality slides between the fingers like a dream that was thought to be awakened, is a defective anticipatory gem under neon in which decors valorize between urban gothic and German expressionism. A labyrinth of fog, amnesia and architectures whose exit, at the edge of identity, leads to the oration of an immobile dusk. Who are we when the light goes out?

Opinion of The Next Meeting (Aurélie) : Science fiction film with a very black universe, Dark CITY Maybe it's too unknown. Alex Proyas once again signed a masterpiece with this extraordinary film. Quickly forgotten at its release, it is today a cult film for lovers of the genre. John Murdoch, drags us through a city that doesn't seem to make sense, whether in its construction where time passes, where the sun never rises. Strange beings with pale faces impose the rules at the heart of a mental, time and reality manipulation, where memories are not what they seem to be. Once again, Alex Proyas shows us that he controls the atmosphere of his film; The psychology of his characters is mastered and developed for the benefit of his script. To see and see again.

Flight over a cuckoo nest (1975)

Title V : One Flew Over the Cuckoos NestNationality : United States – Gender : Drama – Director : Miloš Forman Distribution : Jack Nicholson, Louise Fletcher, William Redfield, Brad Dourif, Will Sampson...

DVD Edition France | Warner Bros. | 06 April 2011 - Blu-ray Edition France | Warner Bros. | 08 November 2016 - Dissemination platform : Canal VOD, LaCinetek and ARTE Boutique

The pitch : To escape prison, a man is voluntarily admitted to a psychiatric clinic. But on the spot, he will discover a universe where injustice and oppression reign...

Opinion of MaG (KillerS7ven) : I still remembered a Swiss videoclub in which I accidentally failed twenty years earlier after an alpine hike. In the middle of a DVD bin, a beautiful red and golden edition like Brice in raffole. Einer flog uber das Kuckucksnest It was with his German name that I discovered this cinema monument and certainly Jack Nicholson's best film. Awarded by the five main film Oscars, including the best film and six Golden Globes, Flight over a cuckoo nest is an integral masterpiece as powerful emotionally as The Green Line. Miloš Forman manages to decline all forms of madness questioning its borders, its limits, while delivering a sharp critique of the medical profession and its practices, starting with the « seismotherapy ». This « reset » by the electroshocks confined to torture and was inflicted on many marginals like Antonin Artaud and so many others. A classic that didn't take a ride. To see and (re)see until you lose your senses!

Opinion of The Next Meeting (Sebastian): Flight over a cuckoo nest is part of these films that can be seen only once for, despite everything, stayed in mind and kept an important place in it. Major work of the filmmaker Miloš Forman – no longer counts cult titles (Hair, Larry Flynt, Man on the Moon, Amadeus) – the latter offers us a drama of profound humanity. Making a beautiful part to an infinitely accurate writing and memorable characters, both principal and secondary. Not to mention the performers who embody them, be it Jack Nicholson, the terrifying Louise Fletcher or the riddle of unforgettable actors (Brad Dourif, Danny DeVito, Christopher Lloyd, Will Sampson...). Anyway, Flight over a cuckoo nest is an indisputable masterpiece, whether it is imperative to have seen, whether we are movie fans or not!

Akira (1988)

Timecode 43: 48

Title V : (Akira)Nationality : Japan – Gender : Animation, Science fiction, Action – Director : Katsuhiro Distribution : Mitsuo Iwata, Nozomu Sasaki, Mami Koyama, Tarō IshidaMizuho Suzuki...

DVD Edition France | Dybex | 1 October 2024 - Blu-ray Edition France | Dybex | 1 October 2024 - 4K Ultra HD Edition France | Dybex | 23 June 2022 - Dissemination platforms : Netflix and LaCinetek

The pitch : An adolescent who has lived a difficult childhood is the victim of experiments aimed at developing the psychic abilities of each human being. Thus endowed with a power that he himself cannot imagine, he goes to war against the world that oppressed him...

Opinion of MaG (Celeste wolf) : Dedicated to the altar of cyberpunk, this cult Japanese animated film unfolds its fury with the surgical precision of an amplified brain for a synesthetic experience that, more than thirty years later, continues to hack our neurons. A chromatic slap coupled with an audible time bomb that explodes, screams and mutilates the sky of its neons and techno nightmares. Like a bug in the matrix before the hour, this psychic apocalypse shot with existential anxiety is deeply injected into the veins of pop culture.

Opinion of The Next Meeting  (Alexandra) : It's undeniable, in Japanese animation, there's a front and one after Akira. From the first notes of the OST (composed by Shoji Yamashiro) mixing traditional Indonesian and Japanese gamelan music, we are immersed in the Neo-Tokyo of Katsuhiro A cyberpunk work, which has nothing to envy to Blade Runner Ridley Scott, who shows characters far from American manicheism through a tortuous and philosophical history. There are also flamboyant action scenes between motorcycle racing and titanium fighting. Now, I only wanted to immerse myself in the manga (also written by Katsuhiro In short, when you can, do not hesitate to see this masterpiece that denounces our necrotic societies.

What happened to Baby Jane? (1962)
