WORK – Burial desecrators
For daring to challenge the Pharaoh by delighting him with his young mistress, the high priest of Thebes, Imhotep, is mummified alive and buried in a secret crypt of Hamunaptra, the city of the dead. From the bottom of his sarcophagus, the high priest swears to revenge the human race...
The Mummy
From adventure to great show, to impeccable staging, to steady pace, to displacing landscapes, to fantastic creatures, to endearing characters and to striking action. Good popcorn cinema.
The Return of the Mummy
More and more action, special effects (often not very discreet), change of scenery and fun, in this adventure entertainment where the adventures continue unabated in an ancient fantasy Egypt.
The Mummy: The Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
In line with the two previous opus, this episode simply changes scenery (China) while maintaining the sense of adventure, the change of scenery, the lightness of tone, the fantastic creatures, the epic action scenes and the SFXs that have made the success of the saga. A very entertaining blockbuster.

The Mummy
A UHD transfer to unheard-of clarity, solid definition (the blurry planes have always been), sharp details (a lot finer textures than in HD), superb colors, salient contrasts and frankly moderate grain. The colorimetric palette is more nuanced (terrestrial hues) and rich (greens), brighter brightness, brighter sun, brighter torches, brighter shines and deeper blacks.
The Return of the Mummy
A UHD transfer less dynamic and softer than that of The Mummy But no less spectacular. The clarity is high, the details robust (improvement is clear vis-à-vis the Blu-ray), firm colors and dense contrasts. The earthy shades are much more nuanced, the flames of the torches are much more ardent, the sunny exteriors become brighter, the armor/loops are more sparkling and the shadows of the tombs are more legible.
The Mummy: The Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
If the silver grain is more present in this 3rd part, this UHD transfer remains the best of the saga with exceptional sharpness, highly convincing details, magnificent colors and insanity contrasts. The colorimetric palette is deeper, saturated (red and blue) and warm (skin tints), much more vivid light sources (flames, headlights, sun), more chromed reflections and stronger blacks.
SON – It's okay, Imhotep!
The Mummy
Between energetic dynamics, extended spatialization, pyrotechnic punchy effects, epic score and occasionally notable aerial component (wind, sand, aircraft), the DTS:X runway is at all points impressive. The VF DTS 5.1, which is less detailed on the atmosphere side, is nevertheless spectacular at its level.
The Return of the Mummy
Aggressive dynamics, effects/ambiences that fill the scene, surrounds and alerts, an immersive aerial scene (arms, wave, rain), a wide score and sustained bass, for a DTS:X track emeritus. Less intrepid (more moderate spatialization and reduced scale), the VF DTS 5.1 does not remain months fit for travel.
The Mummy: The Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
Less intense (less dynamic) but better balanced than its elders, this DTS:X mix impresses. Precise and immersive, it is perfectly spatialized thanks to the support of surrounds and height effects (arrows, Yetis, etc.). The VF DTS 5.1, though, leaves little respite for spectators if it doesn't take the acoustic system (less striking bass and less slender atmospheres) as much as its 3D consoeur.
CONCLUSION – Is his place in a museum?
85 years after the classic performed by Boris Karloff, trilogy with Bredan Fraser We come back in 4K Ultra HD with A/V performances just as exciting (see soundtrack DTS:X) as the old adventure they present!
