WORK – The massacre continues...

Laurie Strode, her daughter Karen and her little daughter Allyson came to abandon Michael Myers, locked in the basement of the house devoured by the flames. Seriously injured, Laurie is transported urgently to the Hospital, with the certainty that she has finally gotten rid of the one who has been harassing her forever. Yet, after being pulled out of the trap where he was locked up, Michael Myers starts his ritual bloodbath again...

While he is distinguished by a rejoicing graphic brutality and an inspired staging, this transitional opus is nothing more than a big bourrin slasher where executions, highly outrageous, mask an excess of characters and secondary stories (even if collective hysteria at the hospital dispenses a timely critique of self-justice) taking precedence over the iconic star of the series, Jamie Lee Curtis. With a less scattered narrative, there is no doubt that his macabre imagination would have generated even more anguish.

While he has been following his adventures for 20 years and remembers their first encounter at the detour of the horror ray of a video club, Ummagumma allowed to write a letter to Michael to mark his eleventh appearance!

IMAGE – That slash!

Deliciously immersed in darkness and fleeing daylight (just absent), this UHD Dolby Vision transfer from a DI 4K does not disappoint.

The details in the shadows come out more than in HD (the backgrounds are better designed), the blacks sink even deeper into the screen, the light sources (including gyrophars and lampposts) more perforate the ambient darkness and the colors, knowingly extinguished apart from the flames devouring Laurie Strode's house and some warm autumnal hues, benefit from a small saturation enhancement.

It should be noted that to reflect the overall aesthetics of the 1978 classic, a thin layer of digital grain was added in post-production.

SON – Hello Ween? This is Cheers!

Without depriving ourselves of any excesses, this Dolby Atmos soundtrack willingly aggressive takes as much pleasure in putting our ears full of it as the croque-mitaine to kill the inhabitants of Haddonfield!

The dialogues are of perfect clarity, the dynamics are thundering, the positioning of the effects/ambiences is fantastic (the inaugural fire, the cacophony of the hospital environment), the surround scene is very busy, the vertical space is regularly pulsating (scratching of the floor, the steps on the roof of a car), the score reorchestrated by Big John in person resonates on all the channels and the basses are generously deep (roaring flames, the jump scares, the shots).

Even though it has a few violent beatings and remains solid at its level, the VF does not breathe so much life into the images.

CONCLUSION – Evil dies last night?

Waiting for the end (?) ofHalloween, this 4K Ultra HD is well-armed to chase the inconceivable Michael Myers who, behind his imposing stature and inexpressive whitish mask, is not ready to be killed!

Halloween Kills

Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
