WORK - Citizen Wayne

As part of the Caped Crusader legacy, this roundly conducted black film is an integral part of the Batman, the animated series is an original story that explores, not without a touch of romanticism, the past of his dark and tortured hero in an unforgettable Baroque Gotham City. The lore is respected, the dynamic staging, the scenes of haletant action, the charismatic antagonist in devil (the ultra-violent pendant of the Dark Knight) and particularly strong dramatic issues. IMAGE - Take off the masks
Restored in 4K from a new scan of the original negatives, the dark image is otherwise more robust and delicate than that of the 2018 Blu-ray (not attached to this edition) in addition to respecting the 1.85 ratio (instead of the previous 1.78). With an average bitrate of 50 Mb/s, compression did not fail.
The silver grain with palpable density makes its great return, the copy has been conscientiously cleaned up until it preserves the rare debris intrinsic to the celluloids of the era and the definition, even though variable from one plane to another (a weakness inherent to the source), shows increased firmness with otherwise more revealing details (the DNR having done much damage in the past).
The WCG is quickly noticed with its flamboyant tints (the red lips of Andrea Beaumont, the green hair of the Joker) and the HDR, well helped by contrasts readjusted with the utmost care, gives firmness to the night scenes and shine to the various lights (the deflagrations, the helicopter projector). The mean luminance was measured at 240 cd/m2 and the luminous peak at 1663 nits.

Coming from the powerful stereo mix of the time (available in DTS-HD MA 2.0 format if you want to relive the 1993 experience of the room), the exclusive remix 5.1 at the VO makes wonders as it reinforces the acoustic experience without any betrayal.
The scope is accentuated, the spatialisation regularly invited at the rear for effects (gunfires, helicopter passages) and/or atmospheres (including rain in the storm), the separate dialogues (with voices of Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill) and the strong LFE channel (explosions). As for the moving composition of Shirley Walker, including the memorable declination of the theme of Danny Elfman to date, it envelops the audience in an enlarged melodic sphere.
More tightened and erased, the little VF (which finds for the occasion Richard Darbois and Pierre Hatet) limited to Dolby Digital 2.0 does its best (a nice general clarity) but still suffers from too prominent dubbing at the expense of several noises.
CONCLUSION - The Caped Crusader
For its 30th anniversary, the iconic animated Bruce Timm and Eric Radomski benefits from a welcome modernization on 4K Ultra HD support through A/V thaumaturges services deeply respectful of source material. If you walk by the edge of the abyss, be careful never to fall!
