First feature film by the actor Mathieu Rozé, this adaptation of the Little horses of Tarquinia Marguerite Duras released on DVD 23 August 2022. « Friends who know each other too well. Nothing to do. Or so little. Vacations. And then comes a boat ». A film that makes us live a canicule summer where boredom ends up marrying desire.
37°C in the morning
A bunch of friends on vacation, two couples and a single girlfriend, go to the half-summer meet a mysterious man. It is the grain of sand that comes to deregulate their traditional holiday marked by heat and shared boredom. Everyone knows each other by heart, with his fingertips and only this dark navigator will change everything by seducing the band, but especially Sara. This character is beautifully interpreted by Valerie Donzelli, which plays the finesse of its game and its seductive power quiet but effective to take the spectator away. All of the casting (Thomas Scimeca, Florence Loiret-Caille, Yannick Choirat, Nuno Lopes) is very good and the pleasure they take to play is gone.

Visually the use of a very arty fulfills its role of refusing naturalism (in contrast to the actors' game, very realistic for it) and gives a strong and unreal pop side (especially thanks to its electro-pop soundtrack). The staging that skillfully uses the long plan as a device trapping its actors to bring out the real has been repeatedly tried (Cassavetes, Pialat) but it still works. The same applies to inserts that rhythmize and sometimes give a comic counterpoint to the turn of events.

Fever Saturday night
Often well written and funny, dialogues are successful. Unfortunately the film does not go beyond the question of desire in forty degrees without ever really transcending its point. LEros and thanatos have already been much better brought and treated in cinema as in Duras' work. The adaptation of this Duras youth work is finally just as dispensable as the original work. At times, it's more like seeing a vacation of bobos on the run, which isn't always exciting it's true, even if by forty degrees you're more easily seduced.
