WORK - Enemy Sisters
Champions of their twin and rival cities (Piltover Humpey and Zaun Underground), two Vi and Powder sisters are fighting in a war of magical technologies and diametrically opposite perspectives.
Inspired by the world of the famous video game League of Legends developed by Riot Games, this animated tricolor series subtly blending high fantasy and steampunk is a real jewel signed by the studio Fortiche.
The graphic paw at the junction of high technology and craftsmanship is upsetting, the narrative stakes far from all manicheism are captivating, the fantastic universe full of magic has many secrets to unveil, the gallery of characters (including secondary) is well built, the mature themes that explore (among other things) the weight of responsibilities, the class struggle and social progress never do in ease, the particularly nervous staging certainly fills the sight and the scenes of action, with carefully designed choreographies, are dazzling.
Between shadow and light, this first amazing season of beauty and great emotional power could only mark the spirits. Let us wish the same success in its final chapter, now available on Netflix.

IMAGE - Welcome to the Playground
Made from a master format 1080p, this 4K scale with Dolby Vision calibration is an amazing finesse and crazy charm. Well helped that it is by a HEVC compression (an average 90 Mbps video bitrate) at its ease (three 100 GB discs). In fact, the rich city of Piltover (with its symmetry unique to Art Deco) and the lowlands of Zaun (made of bric and broc with its curved lines evoking Art Nouveau) are more illustrative.
The degree of definition is a little more sharp (cf. urban panoramas) and an extra veil of sharpness operates (apart from the intentional blurs managed by compositing) with better textures « painted » (hair, body lesions, clothes, mechanical creations, decorations). As of course, the false silver patina (worked in post-production) and the « scratches » superimposed on the image (figuring Jinx's inner torments) appear with more finesse. Unlike its HD counterpart, neither macrobloc nor contour halo come to disturb the session.
Thanks to WCG and HDR technologies, 2D FX animation, light and magic bring an excess of depth to the image. The colorimetric palette is reinforced by richer and deeper hues (the primary ones are magnificent), the contrasts have been significantly improved (deeper blacks and brighter whites) and the lighting sources, radiating in the city of progress and fluorescents in the dark shantytown (dived into a harmful fog), unfold with a completely different intensity (l-Hextech, neons, flames).
SON - Hit Music Only
At the rhythm of an ultra varied playlist delivered with a lot of energy, this mixing that fully exploits the 5.1 channels at its disposal (ambient noises and pyrotechnic effects emanate from all directions) shows unusual power and rage as soon as it is agitated on the screen. Well returned, the serious and infra-grave frequencies had to be answered.
The VF lossy (640 kbps) is still less wrestling when it comes to knocking, but it's ready to fight against the VO encoded in Dolby TrueHD (24-bit, 3860 kbps). In both cases, dubbing is a high level with one side Hailee Steinfeld and Ella Purnell, and the other Alice Taurand and Adeline Chetail. Perfectly audible, the dialogues are strongly excused by the power plant.
CONCLUSION - Time for quarrels
At the centre of a visceral conflict between two irreconcilable cities, the crossed destinies of two sisters (being lost one another) electrify this quaint animated series that the present 4K Ultra HD, by means of A/V performances at all points fabulous, raises to the rank of art work!
I watched the first two episodes and I'm already conquered. ^^^
