For those who travel through the festivals, maybe Robert Morgan's name immediately gives you cold sweats. If you've been to the Hallus in Lyon for the last 15 years, you've probably had the chance to attend. The Cat With Hands, Belials Dream or Tomorrow I will Be Dirt, probably the most disturbed of all his shorts. With the release this year of his feature film Stop Motion, it seemed essential to share with you the work of this macabre artist. Even more radical than the excellent Junkhead or Mad GodThese shorts do not suffer from any concessions. Never. Sensitive friends abstain, Morgan's work mixes lubricated desires with morbid appetite with black humour in tune. With his naughty, hyper expressive trick, this torve-eyed rabbit will suffer the consequences of his larceny... Tomorrow I will be dirt carries his name wonderfully well. This morbid fantasy presents itself as a tribute and a near-sequence to the film Schramm and compilation Love & Death of the Jörg Buttgereit, with imagination no less disturbed than Morgan's. We follow a character tortured by his crimes and confronted with a real mass grave that loaves. A pretty crazy audacity between mutilatory scarifications and necrophilic impulses. More musical than the other shorts in this selection, Ray Incident, Incidental 38: Strange action at distance from its full name is one of the most cryptic films in this selection. Robert Morgan explains his approach: « When I heard Ray Incident's song, it seemed very fragmented and chaotic, but it contained swirling patterns that were hypnotic. Images of kaleidoscopes came to my mind, accompanied by some kind of malicious hypnosis ritual... I shot the film in sequence, and mounted as I went, allowing myself to be guided by music rather than some narrative logic. » A sensory experience that They have changed their faces, slice in this selection.
