WORK - The story incarnate...
After the death of the mother of young Ella, her father, a merchant, remarried. Ella warmly welcomes her mother-in-law, Lady Tremaine, and her two daughters Anastasia and Drisella. But when Ella's father disappears, the three women will make Ella a servant.
This live adaptation of the fairy tale of Charles Perrault which plunges us (without inventing anything) into the universe of great classic Disney from the 50s, is a family entertainment bewitching treated first degree without ever sinking into ridicule. It's stunning visually (the artistic direction that it owes to Dante Ferretti is wonderful) while being kitsch, it is naturally good child with what it takes of Manichean characters (Cate Blanchett is just perfect in the grandiose costumes of a fateful woman way) and good feelings, and it's willingly blue flower with a fantasy love relationship. All disneyian magic therefore works at full speed by taking us on a memorable fantasy journey.
IMAGE - The most beautiful to go dancing
A royal definition, ultra-precision textures, a detailed depth of field, beautiful mordorate colours, sumptuous contrasts, admirable blacks and a very pleasant silver grain (more organic in UHD).
And if this was already the case with the HD transfer, this 4K Ultra HD presented in HDR10 significantly surpasses it by the accentuation of clarity (the details are more distinct), the improvement of the very rich colorimetric palette (the shades are wider) and the brightness of the light sources (the daylight of the day, the glittering blue dress of Cinderella, the glass slippers, the lighting of the Palais Royal). Nevertheless, a few planes (a handle) have quite unusual hardness.
Bibidi Bobidi Bou!
With extreme finesse, this wonderful mix delivers clear dialogues, rich effects/ambiences at both the front and the back, as well as enchanting music (from the Scottish composer) Patrick Doyle) taking possession of space with a beautiful magnitude. Unfortunately, the VO Dolby Atmos, which replaces the 2015 Blu-ray DTS-HD MA 7.1 loss-free presentation, is less engaging than the latter.
In fact, recorded at a weak volume (a habit at Disney that forces to increase the sound to a high level), it has trouble flying the dynamics (just appreciable) and making us feel the bass (especially when the pumpkin turns into a carriage)... This was not the case previously (including VF DTS-HD HRA). Fortunately, the height channels are regularly requested (the rustling of the leaves, the reverberation of the voices, the magical manifestations of the good fairy, fireworks) for an increased immersion.
Less natural and enveloping without demerit, the VF(Q) is more ordinary (even if only with its somewhat monotonous dubbing) and sticks less at Cinderella's pace.
CONCLUSION - Magic of Dreams
Sapée like never before with her blue ball dress (a 4K Ultra HD pretty as a heart), the beautiful Lily James becomes a princess in front of the camera of Kenneth Branagh for an enchanting live action and very respectful of the timeless animated film Cinderella.
Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
