Often the simplest concepts are the most striking. Azrael is part of these radical proposals that borrow without blushing the grammar of the video game. When Aboriginal people Village of Shyamalan find themselves in the earthly hell of The Last of Us 2 to the carnivorous creatures of The Descent, the angel of death played by a revengeful Samara Weaving leaves his rage to live. Presented to Gérardmer in competition, Azrael by E. L. Katz ticks all the boxes of the movie horror punch with brilliance. A silent survival in black and red that strikes with its frontal graphic violence while successfully transcribing the sound density of a forest in flames.

E. L. Katz, director
Born in New York, E. L. Katz wrote several genre film scenarios before moving on to become a director in 2013 with his first feature film, Cheap Thrills, presented at several festivals such as South by Southwest and Fantasia. For his second film, Small Crimes, broadcast on Netflix in 2017, it also takes on the role of co-writer. Azrael is his third feature film.
