On the occasion of the release of the collector box Nicolas Philibert: In psychiatry Blaq Out (containing the films) On Adamant, Averroès and Rosa Parks, The Typewriter and other sources of hassle & The Mind of Things), we will come back one by one on these different documentaries of a director centered on the psychiatry community. Passionate, documenting the evolution of this practice between 1992 (The Mind of Things) and 2024 and facing the humanity of these people so different but yet bringing us back to the center of what the human is. It's the turn of the last film in the set (and the shortest!), The Typewriter and other sources of hassle, to pass on the grill of the critic...

Third foot of the triptych

In the Philibert Cinematic Universe, we find the actors of the first documentaries (carers as patients) in the other parts of the triptych. This is resolutely the case here where caregivers change their cape: from social staff, they transform themselves within a few hours in MacGyver from DIY, stinging to restart devices that make the misery of their owners into psychiatric difficulties.

Where the other triptych movies In psychiatry to transmit moments of life, to capture time (139 minutes for Averroès & Rosa Parks, Nevertheless!) and at the same time the bits of real, The Typewriter and other sources of hassle the reverse company. As its title does not indicate, the documentary feature makes the bet of brevity. It's barely an hour and twelve! However, the process remains basically the same: documenting the state of a fraction (here very Parisian) of the psychiatric world, inviting this time directly in patients.

We will then find the known heads of On AdamantInfiltrated directly to the patient's home. The goal is twofold: to help the patient by helping them repair small daily mechanical or electronic problems, but also (and above all?) to approach the treated person in his/her life environment and continue part of the therapy, this time extramural and more informally.

Perhaps less extensive, the short documentary does not reach any conclusions other than its older brothers: the need for protean psychiatric assistance (we see it well thanks to the three approaches of this documentary triptych) has never been as great, humanity that crosses the people of the cared for so intact, yet the fragility of this health system (and in particular its psychiatric part) has never been so blissful, the fault of our society of profit. The Typewriter and other sources of hassle It's probably not the trio's brightest film, nor the most striking, but its brevity makes it an excellent gateway and throws a more social look, allowing the viewer to watch over the conditions of patients, often precarised. Anyway, Philibert stays with the smallest piece at the top of his art, and we ask again...

Drinking the Stephen Kings as the apricot syrup of my native country, I first discovered cinema through its (often bad) adaptations. I'm married to Mrs. Wilkes as much as a persistent Stockholm syndrome, I am gradually opening up to videoclub films and B-series peasers.Today, I wander between my favorite cinemas, film festivals and the edges of Helvetic lakes much less calm than they look.
