With the Popular Front, another world is possible

Ivre de puissance, Emmanuel Macron congratulated himself yesterday again: « I've been preparing this for weeks and I'm delighted. I threw my grenade in their legs. Now we'll see how they get out. ». What degree of irresponsibility does it take to make such a statement when the far right is at the gates of power? Shouldn't the president be more accountable for his pathetic record? It was he who pretended to block the far right and who today deals with extremism if not anti-Semitism the entire left by pure Orwellian maneuvers.

If the RN wins, the world of culture will not be spared. The intermittent status of the show will be removed and the CNC liquidated. Already put at risk by the project of fusion of audiovisual media carried by the presidential majority and supported by the entire right, the public service programmes will be eliminated as already announced by the RN; the festivals we cover will be emptied of their substance in favor of a debilitating national novel; the rare independent press will be put to the advantage of the private at all whose appreciation for diversity is known. The spaces of exchange to meet the challenges of our time will be rarer, until they become non-existent, while the media landscape is concentrated in the hands of a handful of billionaires like Bolloré, who guides the public debate towards the worst. His Zemmour, Hanouna and now Ciotti puppets demonstrate this every day.

The survival of public subsidies is also at stake. The RN town halls have always demonstrated their determination to erase the difference. Our convalescent public services will be completed, swallowed up in the large market. Corruption will guide the executive against the common good. Faithful allied with the RN, Meloni's Italy illustrated by eliminating the offence of abuse of power in January.

Worse still, fear of the other, the collapse of our public freedoms and the tearing of civil society will lead us further to ruin, while the flammable international context must not leave room for error. The divide will affect women, LGBT and racialized people and all minorities, already targeted by discriminatory policies. Foreigners will be the scapegoats designated as guilty of world disorder. As with every institutional crisis that brings us closer to fascism, the entire population will eventually be reached and our public freedoms will gradually be destroyed.

Chile has experienced as Argentina the ultraliberal Milei who already regrets his choice of wanting « Try something else to change ». Our living conditions will not improve, on the contrary, it is enough to go to the decisions of those men who say they are close to the people but who systematically vote against any progressive or social measure to favour their privileged social class.

Moreover, through a grotesque manipulation aimed at forgetting its historical anti-Semitism in order to better nourish racism against the Arabs, the RN's unconditional support for the war criminal Netanyahu keeps us away from a resolution of the conflict for the Palestinian and Israeli peoples. This will fuel genocide and prolong the eternal cycle of violence. The risk of terrorist attacks will increase. Already largely compromised, the loss of confidence of the countries of the South will be irremediable.

Our imperfect but primordial international institutions will be discredited. Born from the ashes of the Second World War, the objective of maintaining international peace and security will be further removed. Human rights hated by the far right will be the object of constant attacks. To this is added the manifest promiscuity of the far right with the Kremlin which is incompatible with our national sovereignty. The rumbling war requires the utmost caution.

Let us not leave our future in the unresponsible hands of power. The vice-president of the RN was busy this week trying to remove dual nationality before he fell in love with the media. Racism is their DNA.

Rather than an identity retreat, another world of sharing is possible: ecological, social and human. The urgency to respond to the climatic challenges the command and our aspiration to a more egalitarian society by a better distribution of wealth invites us to do so. Certainly this plural left is very far from being perfect, we know it, and there are many things that one can and must reproach it, starting with its internal divisions and picrocholine wars. The Popular Front must show responsibility and unity to transform society. The caciques of the founding parties will have to set aside their grudges in order to respond to the historical challenges and reiterate the success of the Popular Front of 1936 which led to the social reforms that founded our modern society. We will watch over them and our voices force them to do so.

Let's not be fooled, in Renaissance as well as in the RN, it goes far beyond intestinal struggles. In these political formations, examinations are the rule; probity, the exception. The conflict of interest is permanent. Almost all of the present government is prosecuted for criminal or criminal offences. It is enough to see the retention of the Guard of Seals Éric Dupond-Moretti yet charged for illegal taking of interests. A first under the Fifth Republic for the one who should be the guarantor of justice.

Of course fragile, there is a window of hope in the Popular Front, which leaves for once united for the elections. It enjoys broad support from civil society, trade unions, NGOs, economists and academics against the chaos orchestrated by Emmanuel Macron. It was he who led us to the brink of the abyss by cutting down all the dikes of the Republic one by one while dismantling our social conquered. Years of outrageous provocations, austerity policies, denials of democracy and forced passages as a golden rule. This government rejected parliamentarism with great reinforcement of 49.3, derailed every bill rejected by the people. Repression is his only political offer.

A president should be the guarantor of unity rather than of burned land, of hope rather than resignation. Let us face him with his responsibilities, whether he is confronted with the impossibility of a Republican dam that twice offered him the Elysée on a plateau.
